June is drawing to a close here in Austin, Texas and that can mean only one thing-the Annual 4thof July Celebration is just around the corner! Austin is proud to celebrate our nation’s freedom, as can be seen in the many parades, festivals, and of course- fireworks. The crowned jewel of Austin’s fireworks display occurs at Auditorium Shores, where the Austin Symphony Orchestra will perform patriotic songs, as well as the classic Overture of 1812. Whether this is your first July in Austin or your hundredth, this is an event not to be missed. Be sure to bring a blanket and come early because the best grass patches are taken quickly! Here’s what you need to know:

For those of you looking to enjoy the aerial display, but wanting to avoid a large crowd, we have listed a few alternative locations for you to choose from.
  • Barton Creek Mall has a fantastic hilltop view of the fireworks, but can also get crowded, so prepared to spend up to an hour in the parking lot after the show is over.
  • Barton Skyway’s office buildings have parking garages that locals will often pile into for the show.
  • Zilker Park, Shoal Creek and Mt. Bonnell are classic Austin spots and all feature great views of the sky.
  • Rent a kayak or boat on Town Lake.
  • Carlos & Charlie’s has a famous annual celebration as well.
Want to have some holiday fun before the fireworks begin? There are plenty of activities throughout the day to keep you busy.
  • The Pflugerville Pfirecracker Pfestival features live music, food, games and more, starting at 4:00 pm and ending at 11:00 pm.
  • Round Rock’s July 4th Frontier Days Celebration, starting at 10:00 am, features a parade and carnival rides.
  • July 4th in Lakeway will be kicking off the celebrations at 8:30 am and will have a variety of great activities throughout the day, including a parade, laser tag, food trailers and more!
Austin, Texas is the perfect place to celebrate our national heritage, so be sure to see the awe-inspiring display over Town Lake. Remember, the orchestra begins at 8:30 and the fireworks at 9:30.
