Austin’s surging economy, low unemployment rate and overall unique atmosphere attracts residents from all over. New Austinites hail from other Texas cities, nearly every U.S. state and even a few countries! So where in Austin are all these new residents moving to? The Austin Business Journal recently published a detailed map of all the Austin areas with an influx of new residents based on data from a 2012 survey by the U.S. Census Bureau. Using these sources, we’ve narrowed down the neighborhoods with the highest number of new Austin residents. Take a look below to find out which areas our newest residents choose to call home:
Round Rock topped the list of areas with the highest number of new Austin residents. The area that includes the neighborhoods of High Country and Greenlawn Place boasted the largest number with 2,123 new Austinites. Residents are attracted to the area’s proximity to the Dell campus, major thoroughfares and affordable homes. Just north of this area, the community surrounding Eagle Ridge, Indian Ridge, and Stoney Brook claimed 1,877 new Austin residents. This area is just a stone’s throw from the Round Rock Premium Outlets, Scott and White Medical Center and a few higher education campuses. Finally, 1,254 new Austinites chose to call the Fern Bluff and Stone Canyon neighborhoods home. This area’s peaceful community atmosphere and proximity to top-notch schools make it an attractive pick for families.
The area near the intersection of Highway 183 and Ranch Road 620 claimed a large number of new Austin residents. Springwoods, Forest North Estates and other surrounding neighborhoods are home to 1,795 new residents. Major employers like IBM maintain offices in the area. The homes here are also affordable with prices in the $200s. The Anderson Mill area attracted 885 new Austin residents. Its established homes and location near major highways and shopping centers make it an attractive place to call home.
The beautiful hill country and stunning homes make West Austin one of the most popular areas to call home for any Austin resident (new or old). The Steiner Ranch community became home to 1,753 new Austinites last year. It’s variety of homes and community amenities no doubt put it over the top. The Canyon Creek community combined with neighborhoods in the Volente area claimed a total of 1,297 new Austin residents. This area boasts some of the best views of the hill country and offers a retreat from city life with its remote locales. Finally, 891 new residents chose the Barton Creek community for their new home. Its excellent golf course, high-end homes and proximity to area employers helped make it a top choice for new residents.
