Since its opening in 2007, The Domain has become one of the most popular shopping destinations in Austin. It is also one of the most unique in the Austin area with its high-end shops, residential units, hotels and offices. Just when it feels like The Domain couldn’t grow any more, developers recently announced exciting plans for the future. Phase Three of The Domain is in the works and will offer even more retail and residential options that cover 304 acres. Developers are also planning exciting upgrades to the existing shopping centers in The Domain.

Plans for Phase Three of The Domain show 1.8 million square feet dedicated to new retail space. The first store to take advantage of the new space is Nordstrom, a high-end department store. Nordstrom is no stranger to the Austin landscape and maintains a popular store in Barton Creek Square Mall. Construction will begin this year on the two-story, 123,000 square foot store. Austinites can look forward to its opening in the fall of 2016. Nordstrom will be located in the northernmost section of Phase Three, near the intersection of MoPac and Burnet Road. It joins the new Whole Foods location, which had the most successful store opening for the company to date in February. Phase Three will also add 5,000 residential units and 800 hotel rooms to The Domain’s landscape. Local businesses can take advantage of the 3.5 million square feet of office space, as well.

In addition to the development of Phase Three, shoppers will soon enjoy a beautiful open park space in The Domain. The existing 10,000 square feet of open space in front of the iPic Theater will become a sprawling green lawn. A large shade structure will cover the space to help keep visitors cool during hot summers. Plans also include a play area for children. The lawn is designed to accommodate festivals, performances and other events like music concerts. When it’s not being used as an event space, visitors can relax in the shade after a long day of shopping. Adding this park enhances the “live, work, play” environment of The Domain and gives locals a unique space to enjoy. The recreational space will open in September 2014.
