If you’ve always dreamed of parking an airplane in your backyard, Lakeway Airpark Estates may be the perfect community to call home. Zbranek and Holt Custom Homes broke ground last month on 8 custom homesites designed for pilots and their particular needs. Each site will have standard two-car garages in the front and a hangar with direct access to the adjacent tarmac. Lakeway Airpark Estates will be the last development to occur near Lakeway Airpark, which is located north of Lakeway Boulevard on Flying Scot Street. Lakeway Airpark has served the Lakeway community since 1995, but this is the first time homes have been developed with direct access to the airstrip.
Although the Austin market for airpark homes may not seem large, there are over 100 personal aircraft currently registered in the Austin area. Zbranek and Holt also declined to develop the site until they found a suitable buyer for each lot. And there couldn’t be a better builder for the site. Steve Zbranek, a partner at Zbranek and Holt, is the owner of two planes himself. He wanted to design a community that would cater to the needs of pilots and their families by giving pilots easier access to their planes. Zbranek and Holt Custom Homes has also been named National Master Builder of the Year two times, Custom Builder of the Year four times and even Business of the Year by the Lakeway Chamber of Commerce. With all these accolades, future residents can expect high quality homes from Zbranek and Holt designed to suit their specific needs.
Homes are expected to range from 3,600 to 6,000 square feet in size and feature stone and stucco exteriors with beautiful landscaping. Each home will be custom designed and pre-wired for tech developments. Four properties are planned to have a swimming pool, and seven will have hangers behind their backyard. The eighth site will not have a hanger directly on their property, but will have access to a larger one nearby instead. Homes vary in price from $800K to $1.8 million. Residents will also need to become members of the Airpark Association in order to access the runway. Neighbors won’t have to worry about overnight noise from the airpark, since flight is restricted from sunrise to sunset only. Lakeway Airpark Estates is expected to be completed by summer 2014.
