If you want to know which U.S. cities are rapidly growing, you don’t have to look far beyond Central Texas. According to the latest data from the Census Bureau, Texas is home to five of the nation’s fastest-growing cities with a population of over 50,000. Georgetown topped the list with a 7.8% population increase between July 2014 and July 2015. Nearly 5,000 new residents last year pushed the city’s population to over 63,000. Pflugerville joins Georgetown as the second Austin area city to make the list with a 4.5% population growth. That brings Pflugerville’s population to just over 57,000 residents.
It’s easy to see what makes Georgetown and Pflugerville attractive cities for new residents. One of the top reasons is their close proximity to central Austin. Georgetown and Pflugerville are close enough to Austin for residents to enjoy the big city vibe, but far enough to preserve their small town charm. Both cities regularly host market days and other local events to help foster a strong sense of community. Recent developments like the Wolf Ranch Town Center and Tech Ridge Center also bring grocery stores, retailers, and other amenities close to local residents. Finally, these two cities are booming with housing growth. New neighborhoods like La Conterra, Rancho Sienna, Water Oak at San Gabriel, Cantarra, Penley Park, and Sorento offer a variety of price points and home features. Even more neighborhoods are set to debut in the area later this year.
Other fast-growing Texas cities to make the list are New Braunfels at the number two spot behind Georgetown, Frisco, and Pearland. The Census Bureau also reported the combined Austin-Round Rock metro area surpassed two million residents in 2015. It’s clear that growth in the Austin area isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
