You've probably heard the news by now - tech giant Apple made an announcement on December 13th that it will be investing $1 billion to add another campus in North Austin, along with expanding job opportunities all across the US (Apple.com). This is Apple's third Austin location, and set to be built on 133 acres less than a mile from its neighboring Northwest location. Construction is expected to last 30 - 36 months (Austin Business Journal).
On December 18th, Williamson County officials voted on and approved a "taxpayer-funded incentive package for Apple," which will require Apple to invest $400 million in the site over 15 years and hire 4,000 new workers by the site's 12th anniversary, and in return the company will receive a 65% rebate on its property taxes. Apple currently plans for the initial campus to host 5,000 employees, and will eventually grow that number to 15,000 (Statesman). With these expansions, Apple is expected to become the #1 private employer in Austin.
