The Anderson Mill neighborhood is an established community in Northwest Austin named for the Anderson Gristmill that once operated off Volente Road in the early 1860s. Homes were built in Anderson Mill between the 1970s and 1980s, and now range in price from around $120,000-$250,000. Anderson Mill boasts 60 acres of parks and greenbelt areas connected by six miles of hike and bike trails. Residents benefit from two year-round heated pools, six parks with playscapes, tennis and volleyball courts, soccer fields, and a softball field. In addition, residents can join the Anderson Mill Fitness Center which offers weights and fitness machines. Those with school age children will enjoy having two elementary schools, a middle school, and high school within the community. Although Anderson Mill is an established community, the neighborhood saw major changes in 2008: on June 30, 2008 the City of Austin began providing water and wastewater service to Anderson Mill and full annexation by the City of Austin (with the exception of parks, pools, and trash service) occurred on December 31, 2008.
