The small neighborhood of Hancock is conveniently situated just blocks from The University of Texas, with easy access to downtown and the Capitol. Bounded by Duval St. on the west and I-35 on the east, Hancock possesses a rich history - many of its homes date from the teens and twenties, when Hancock was a fashionable suburb of Austin. Quaint craftsman bungalows line the streets, interspersed with apartments and condominiums (mostly occupied by university students). Residents have many amenities at their fingertips: the Hancock Shopping Center, complete with a large HEB, Sears, and 24-Hour Fitness, the Hancock Golf Course, and nearby Eastwoods Park and Wading Pool. Hancock has recently made headlines since Concordia University announced plans to move from its 34th St location - an urban, mixed-use development is slated to go up on the 22-acre campus by 2008.
