A new school year doesn't just mean the start of new classes; it means another exciting season of Texas high school football! Two-a-day practices are in full swing, and teams are gearing up for scrimmages and week one match-ups. Over at Lake Travis High School, the team is hard at work as they prepare to live up to the hype of their very successful football program. After all, they are the first team in Texas high school football history to win five consecutive state titles, and the 2012 season was no exception. In their inaugural season as a Class 5A team, Lake Travis finished with an overall record of 9-2, losing to Pflugerville in the first round of the playoffs. This record was enough to boost Lake Travis into the top ten high school teams with the most wins (71 total) over four years (2008-2012) nationally. Needless to say, expectations are high for the 2013 season - Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine ranks Lake Travis as number 14 in the Top 25 Class 5A teams. The magazine also predicts Lake Travis to come in second in the district after Westlake High School, but nothing is written in stone. Although Lake Travis will have a new quarterback, experienced offensive players like Varshaun Nixon, combined with six returning defensive starters are sure to help boost the offensive side of the ball. This team could very well see post-season action at the playoffs in 2013. Check out the varsity schedule below for times, dates and opponents for Lake Travis Football's 2013 season.
